Next Steps

“The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” Psalm 37:23–24 NLT

How are you doing? You may have started this journey with a bit of uncertainty, but hopefully you’re beginning to understand the importance of living a life of purpose and vision. Although you may encounter opposition along the way, the Christian life can be a fulfilling walk of faith. But what if you don’t know the next step to take? Where do you go from there?

Abraham was well settled in his hometown of Haran when God called him and set him on a journey beyond the imagination. He had the promise of God’s blessing if he would go, but he didn’t know where he was going. The only directive he had was to pack up and move out.

“Then the Lord told Abram, ‘Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you’” (Genesis 12:1 NLT).

When you don’t have a clear picture of the path ahead, it’s easy to default to inactivity, hesitating to take the steps that can move you out of your current situation and into a better one. Your life may not be perfect, but it’s what you know and the thought of change is intimidating.

Abraham is known as the father of faith because he believed God and took those steps into his future, despite the uncertainties. He didn’t quite know what lay ahead, but he had the promise of God that it would be good.

Can you hear God calling? Can you hear his voice coaxing you out of your valley and into a land of blessing? Your path may not be clear-cut, but if you desire to live for God, then forward is the only direction for you to choose.

Put your uncertainties into his hand and trust his guidance. There is blessing ahead for you!

Pray:“God, help me to believe in your good plan for my life. I trust you to lead and guide me as I move out of my valley and into your blessings. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Seek: As you look to your future, what are you uncertain about? What are you sure about relating to that same situation? Bring them both before the Lord and listen for his next steps.

Speak: My steps are directed by the Lord. I can move forward because he holds my hand.
