Review Questions for Week 2

  1. How have you been growing in Christ this week? What have you been learning?
  2. When you consider the picture of discipleship Jesus paints in this portion of Mark, what do you think was the hardest part for Peter to accept?
  3. Is there anything that you feel tempted to hold back from Christ? Is there anything you hope He won’t ask you to give up?
  4. To the best of your ability, did you maintain the habits of a healthy Christian this week? If not, what is a meaningful step you can take next week toward acquiring each habit?

If you’ve been feeling lately like the life of faith is hard, or wondering why it’s so difficult to follow Jesus, be encouraged—yes, you’re doing this right. Following Jesus is hard. Putting sin to death is hard. Putting selfishness to death is hard. Putting our own desires and our own plans for our lives in submission to God’s desires and plans is hard.

But Jesus has not called us to a suicide mission. These things must die in us in order for us to truly live. He is calling us from sin and selfishness and into an abounding, abundant life in Him. The way is not easy. It is not safe. But we can trust that it is good, that God will be with us, and that we will find the joy our souls seek most in Jesus Christ forever.

You also need to find people headed to the same destination, so you can encourage each other, train together, and prepare for what lies ahead. That is what A Disciple’s Journey is designed to provide. Each week, you will follow along with the apostle Peter in his journey of discipleship.
