There is an exciting reality that Paul reminds us of in this passage: unity is possible. Our faith in Jesus unites us with other believers, because we all believe He is Lord and aim to center our lives around Him. Knowing Him changes everything—especially our relationships. We don’t have to prove our worth or defend our perspective to one another. Instead, we can live in community, working through our differences in ways that honor God. God knows our weakness—so He gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us as we strive toward unity.

We also recognize that unity is not easy in a broken world. We hurt each other, disappoint one another, and sometimes face deep betrayal or pain. It can feel easier to withdraw and protect ourselves than to risk being wounded again. Yet many of the conflicts we face can be healed when we humble ourselves and pursue peace. For some of us, this feels challenging because we never had healthy examples of resolving conflict. Maybe we saw conflict ignored until it exploded or handled with manipulation, harsh words, or the silent treatment. These behaviors don’t bring peace to our relationships. Scripture invites us into another way: bearing with one another in love, speaking truth with gentleness, and choosing forgiveness. Learning to resolve conflict in our relationships deepens them, bringing greater unity and peace.
