Have you ever been driving only to find your car wandering off the road ever so slightly? Maybe you caught a glimpse of a cool roadside garden, and before you knew it, your car was drifting right toward it. Maybe you were shuffling through a playlist and realized you’d taken your eyes off the road. Maybe your kids kept asking for a snack and you were so focused on getting them fed that you missed your exit. The point? You shifted focus from the road, and as a result, your car went right along with your thoughts. That’s the same point Jesus is making here. Wherever we put our focus—whatever we treasure in this life—that’s where our hearts will be. So, if our focus is on the things of this world, that’s where our hearts will be, too. But if we shift our focus back on Jesus, then we’ll find our hearts are with Him, too.
Today, check your focus. Whenever you feel yourself distracted, pulled away, or just lost in your thoughts, lift your head and look up. Literally change your focus toward heaven and watch how your heart will follow when you do.

The truth is, no matter who you are, you have something to give in service to others. The problem? Those are often the things we tend to close our hands around the tightest. But what if that wasn’t the way life was meant to be lived? This devotional is going to talk about what an open-handed life really looks like, lived out—because generosity is about so much more than giving something away.
