Am I Enough? 3 Encouraging Reminders for Parents

God Chose You

I can still remember holding my firstborn, wet-from-the-womb son, for the very first time. My thoughts raced within me… “Can this be real? Has God really trusted me with this little human life? Am I ready? Do I have what it takes?

As a parent, have you ever felt:

  • Inadequate: Am I good enough?
  • Overwhelmed: Am I going to make it through this?
  • Guilty: Have I messed up too many times for my kids to turn out right?

All of these feelings are normal as a parent. On some level, every parent struggles with their inability to get it all right.

Psalm 127:4 reminds us that, “As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth.”

If you have children, God has purposely placed them into your hands like arrows, which means that he has called and equipped you for this task.

So when you’re feeling less than enough, be reminded that God Chose You.

God didn’t choose any perfect parents. Instead, he chose us. And each of us has a unique story all our own.

This means that no one is as uniquely qualified to raise your kids as you are. You have been hand-picked for the job.

God gave you a story, and God gave you your kids. Neither of these things is by accident.

So God is using your imperfect story to help you raise your God-given kids and point them like arrows towards him.

Throughout the Bible, people were raised by parents with flaws and shortcomings—Adam and Eve, Issac and Rebekah, or David and Bathsheba, just to name a few.

Yet, God still uses every person and has a plan for every life.

Be encouraged by the fact that if you’re trying to raise your kids in a godly way, you can’t ruin them. You aren’t that powerful.

God’s grace is sufficient for your parenting, no matter your past or current struggles. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

How could understanding that God has specifically chosen and qualified you to raise your kids change your parenting perspective?

Prayer

“Lord, thank you for uniquely preparing me to raise my kids. Help me to believe that you have chosen me on purpose to point my kids to you.”

Tomorrow we’ll see how, as we parent our children, God is parenting us.
