Gideon - From Fear to Victoryنموونە

Day 4 – Clothed with the Spirit
Scripture:
Judges 6:33–35
Devotional:
As the enemies of Israel gathered, the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon. Only then did he blow the trumpet to summon others to battle. Without the Spirit, Gideon would still have been hiding. With the Spirit, he became a leader.
Jesus Himself waited until He was filled with the Spirit before beginning His ministry. The disciples were told to wait in Jerusalem until they received power from on high. We too cannot walk in God’s calling without God’s Spirit clothing us.
This is the difference between striving in our own strength and walking in God’s power. The Spirit clothes us, surrounds us, and empowers us to do what we could never do alone. Gideon’s obedience to clear out the old false idols and his faith to believe God’s word over his life brought him to the place where God’s Spirit could begin to use him. When we allow God to cut off sin from our lives and we put our trust in His word, we become vessels that God delights to pour Himself into.
Reflection:
Am I trying to serve God in my own effort, or am I allowing Him to clothe me with His Spirit? What has God called me to do in my strength and what is He asking me to do in His strength?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, clothe me with Your presence and power for everything You have called me to in Your strength. Help me to trust that You will do all that You say You will do.
