Finding Jesus in 5 Psalms: Celebrating the Work and Character of Christ

ڕۆژی1 لە 5

Theologian Timothy Keller called the Psalms “Jesus’s songbook.” The Psalms help give us words to say, but they are also filled with wisdom. Each psalm featured in this study points us to Jesus. We will reflect on five select psalms and use them as guides for prayer.

May God encourage you through this study as you delight in our Savior, redeemer, and friend!

Jesus Reigns: Psalm 2

When we look at the world around us, it isn’t hard to understand the first two verses in Psalm 2. Nations are in a constant state of rage. War and conflict are nothing new, making the idea of peace on earth unimaginable. But we also live in a world and culture that is increasingly against God, the true ruler of all things.

The psalmist reminds us that Jesus reigns, and He reigns mightily. God is not anxious about the world (Psalm 2:4). He is also not sitting by idly. The Lord has sent His Son to rule and break the power of darkness—both sin and death. Because He reigns with power, we have hope.

Today, we can take refuge in Jesus. We know that the baby in the manger fulfilled the prophetic words in these verses. The world may feel uneasy, but we can rest knowing that Jesus will finish what He started. Jesus will return, and when He does, there will be peace—true peace—on earth. He will wipe away all rage and division and persecution against each other and against God. It will all cease.

If we want to rest assured of the Lord’s mercy and grace, we must learn to fear and worship Him above all else. It is God’s love that sent His Son for us, and it is His love that keeps us. This season, while the earth rages, if we know Jesus, we can (and should) have peace. Let’s ask Him for it today.

Lord, it can be discouraging to look at the world and believe that true peace really is available to us. Give us the gift of hope. This Christmas season, help us to remember that You reign, and because You reign, we can trust You. May we worship You and take refuge in Your mighty arms. Thank You, Jesus, for coming as a baby and reigning as a King. Amen.
