The Spirit, Not the Flesh, Changes You
How did you begin this journey? By grace. By faith. By the Spirit. So why do so many of us try to finish it in the flesh?
Paul’s question cuts deep: “After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Grace isn’t just the doorway into salvation; it’s the atmosphere we breathe every step of the way. We don’t graduate from the gospel to something more “mature.”
The Holy Spirit does what the Law never could—He transforms. He changes desires. He produces fruit. This doesn’t mean we don’t strive—it means our striving is Spirit-empowered, not self-driven.
When you feel stuck, when sin feels stronger than surrender, don’t try harder—yield deeper. The Spirit didn’t just fall on Pentecost. He lives in you now, and He’s still your greatest hope for real change.
Reflection Questions:
- Where in my life am I relying on my own effort instead of the Spirit’s power?
- What would it look like to surrender those areas today?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I need You. I can’t change without You. I yield again to Your work in me—transform my heart, my thoughts, and my actions. Let Your fruit grow where I’ve tried to force results. Amen.
