A Heart Reflection

On today's Bible tour, we will get a glimpse into the heart of God and how that reflects in the heart of man. In the New Testament, Luke will tell us of first hand accounts as well as familiar parables that demonstrate the compassion and the power of Christ. We will see Christ’s compassion in the familiar parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and the prodigal son. These are pictures of how Christ Jesus relentlessly pursues us. We were the lost sheep, and the prodigal child. Luke will show Jesus’s compassion and power working together as he heals and raises the dead. Don’t miss the surprising, awe inspiring faith of the Centurion and how he asks for healing. The Centurion, not a Jewish man, yet he had an understanding of Jesus’s power, position, and authority, more so than most Jewish teachers of the day and maybe even many Christians today.

Our Old Testament tour will take us to the books of Micah and one of my favorite books, Isaiah. Micah wants his readers to remember all that God has done to redeem and bring us to Him. He shows us both sides of the heart of man; the deceitful, wicked, and rebellious side as well as the repentant heart turned towards the Lord. Isaiah does not sugarcoat his words, he is direct and clear about what God disdains and what He will do with his enemies. God is Love and has great compassion; we saw this, and because of His love, He will deal with rebellion and evil which dwells in the heart of man.

So, how can we reflect the heart of God in our lives? Micah sums this up for us in 6:8; “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” To act justly, be honest in all that you do and say as if you were doing it for the Lord Jesus. To love mercy, is not to be something we “do”, but who we are deep inside. How do we do this? We walk humbly with our God, everyday, reflecting on His Word, praying, and remembering through praise all He has done in our lives.
