Peace That Sticks

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” JOHN 16:33 NLT

We are all seeking something, even if we don’t realize it. Peace. Hope. A purpose. When the world feels crazy, we want to feel a sense of safety and comfort. But can we truly have peace in this life?

Yes. We. Can. Jesus tells us, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT). Jesus had a purpose when He walked the earth: to bring true peace to mankind. Peace is not simply the absence of conflict. It’s a state of living, and it’s only truly discovered when we give control to God. Peace is not impacted by circumstance. It’s immovable. When we fully embrace the peace that Jesus offers, it cannot be stolen away. Peace found in God will keep us strong and calm when bad things happen and when the world feels like it’s falling apart.

Remember the last part of that verse. Jesus has overcome the world, so we can be brave. We can trust that God is in control. He has a plan for all of this, and we can trust Him. None of us wants peace that only lasts for a day. We all want a peace that lasts a lifetime. A peace that sticks. We don’t want the glue sticks that we used in kindergarten that barely held two pages of construction paper together. We want the heavy-duty glue that is so strong you don’t even want to touch it or get it on your skin. That’s the kind of sticky peace we want. And that kind of peace comes when we embed ourselves in the Bible and learn from Jesus. It’s easier to feel at peace when we’re walking right next to Jesus through the storm.

Jesus, I want that peace that sticks. I’m tired of feeling out of control. I want to learn to trust You despite the circumstances. You’re in control of it all. Amen.
