A Press Agent for God
“Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me.” Colossians 4:7-8 (NKJV)
Many well-known ministries these days are led by well-known men and women. Christian websites, social media, and bookstores are all full of information about and by people whose names are prominent. Infrastructure, logistics, accounting, press releases, and much more accomplish all of this behind the scenes.
Tychicus, Paul’s “press agent,” faithfully followed and served Jesus by ministering alongside Paul. Instead of being another “Paul,” he acted as a courier of information and a channel of encouragement and comfort to other believers interested in the ministry of the great apostle. He acted in his assigned capacity with faithfulness and tenderness.
Are you “unknown?” Do you serve Christ in a larger setting where no one seems to know your name? Take time to ponder your purpose in God’s plan for the realm of service you are in. When you are tempted to think, “What difference do I make?” instead, thank God. Thank Him that you get to be a press agent for Christ!
Heavenly Father, I thank You that I am Your servant, and I get to be a “press agent” for You! Keep me from desiring to be known by others, and instead, be content knowing that Your purposes for me in my service are being fulfilled as I encourage and comfort others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
