Day 3: I Thought Debt Freedom Was the Goal (It Wasn’t)

After years and a few miracles we can get to in another plan, my wife Linda and I finally saw that $400k debt number hit zero, and we thought we’d made it.

I expected to feel finished. Mission accomplished. But instead, I felt like I was just getting started.

That’s when I realized:

Debt freedom wasn’t the destination—it was the starting line.

God didn’t walk us out of debt just so we could breathe easier or buy more stuff.

He did it to prepare us for something bigger: generosity. Not just the occasional tip or tithe—but the kind of giving that changes lives, funds missions, supports people in crisis, and builds the Kingdom.

That’s always been God’s design. Not just enough for us—but more than enough so we can bless others. Paul calls it a “harvest of generosity.”

But here’s the thing: if we don’t shift our mindset, we’ll settle.

We’ll make “debt free” the finish line instead of letting God give us a vision for what’s next.

He wants you out of debt—not just so you can rest—but so you can run.

So you can fund what He cares about. So you can experience the joy of being a channel for His provision.

And if you’re not there yet? That’s okay. Dream anyway. Ask Him for a vision beyond survival.

I didn’t know how God would use our story. But I can tell you this—He will always do more with your surrender than you could ever do with your hustle.

Let’s pray:

Father, thank You for walking me this far. Help me not to settle for survival. Give me a vision for life beyond debt—a life marked by generosity and purpose. Show me how You want to use me to be a blessing. I trust You with what’s next.
