Confidence in Uncertainty

Paul exhorts Timothy to share this with the people he leads:

“Tell those who have the riches of this world not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, they should place their confidence in God who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” – 1 Timothy 6:17 GW

Was Paul thinking of us?

We all have access to resources that Paul never dreamed of.

What are these riches to which Paul refers?

Riches go beyond material wealth to anything that threatens to hold us captive. What value is there in focusing on what is uncertain when we can enjoy and flourish in what God gives us?

We shouldn’t place our confidence in careers or calling, only in Christ.

Ask yourself:

What riches does God give me so that I may enjoy my work and role in the body of Christ?

Lord, remind me daily that my job is a gift from you. Remind me that to the body of Christ, I’m essential. Remind me that I need to be reliant upon you. Amen.
