The Gospel of Matthewنموونە

Compassion Without Burnout
A friend of mine leads a large non-profit and recently shared something I had never heard before: “compassion fatigue.” It’s the emotional and physical exhaustion that can come from constantly caring for others. He was training leaders on how to recognize and respond to it. As he spoke, I realized—you don’t have to work at a non-profit to feel that way. Parents, teachers, pastors, volunteers—we can all get there.
Compassion fatigue happens when we try to meet needs in our own strength. But when I reflected on the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000, something stood out. If every person had brought their own lunch, there would have been no need for a miracle. But because there was lack, Jesus was able to show His power.
Sometimes we feel depleted because we’re carrying burdens that are meant to be placed in Jesus’ hands. He doesn’t just have compassion—He has power. He sees every need, every empty basket, every tired heart. And He provides.
If you’re feeling drained today, take heart. Bring what little you have—your energy, your time, your care—and offer it to Jesus. He can multiply it in ways you could never imagine.
Respond to God’s Word:
Trust Jesus with a practical need today. He sees and cares.
