Ruth: A Story of Choicesنموونە

The book of Ruth is a story of faithfulness and promise. Ruth is a foreigner, brought into the family of God. Boaz is a family redeemer, a beautiful picture of what Jesus is for everyone who believes. Their son Obed is one in the line of many who will become the ancestors of Christ, from Abraham down through the ages. Naomi holds baby Obed and rejoices at what God has done. Gone is her despair, her bitterness!
They are the characters of the story, but the whole story is about Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah. Really, the whole Bible is. It’s a love letter from God to his people, describing his plan for salvation for all of humanity.
If you have trusted Jesus to pay the penalty for your sins, you have been adopted into God’s family. He chose you. Paul wrote, “He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Now is the time for you to choose: you’ve chosen to follow Christ; now choose how you will serve others.
Prayer: Dear God, you have chosen me, and I want to love you with my whole heart. I want to serve the people around me. Give me opportunity, and give me the courage and strength to follow through. Amen.
