The Power of the Holy Spirit
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8 NLT)
One of the most powerful things the Holy Spirit sparked in the early disciples was boldness.
Before Pentecost, these men and women were hiding - terrified, uncertain, and reeling from the crucifixion of Jesus. They feared for their lives, unsure of what would happen next. The mission Jesus had spoken of must have felt impossible under the shadow of persecution.
Then everything changed.
The risen Jesus appeared to them - not with instructions to charge ahead, but with a simple command: Wait.
Wait for the Helper.
Wait for the power.
Wait for the promise.
And when the Holy Spirit came, the wait was worth it. Power didn’t just rest on them - it filled them. Transformed them. Launched them.
Peter, once afraid to admit he even knew Jesus, stood up and preached with fearless conviction to the very crowds who had witnessed the crucifixion. And that day, Scripture tells us, around 3,000 people were saved and baptized.
That’s not natural boldness. That’s supernatural.
That’s what happens when the Holy Spirit takes over - fear bows, and faith rises. Anxieties fall quiet, and courage speaks loudly. The message God has planted deep within us suddenly bursts out with power and clarity.
The same Spirit who filled Peter fills us today. And He’s still giving boldness to those who wait, trust, and walk with Him.
So, if you’ve felt timid about your faith, if fear has made you silent - take heart. You don’t need to muster up courage on your own. The Holy Spirit gives it freely to those who ask.
Let Him fill you. Let Him speak through you.
Let Him move you from hiding to proclaiming.
Because when the Spirit comes, so does boldness - and the world is never the same.
Prayer Prompts:
- Pray and ask the Lord if there are areas of your life where you need the Spirit’s power.
- Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you share Christ with others.
