It is essential that we understand that our works (what we do) does not save us. Our works are rather the evidence to everyone around us that there is meaning behind our words - that we practice what we preach. The Bible says that the world will know us by our love. If we are always saying “God loves you” or “God is good all the time,” but then we turn and gossip or slander or judge others, then why would anyone want to get to know the God we talk about?
In Ephesians 2, the writer Apostle Paul is emphatic when teaching that we are saved by grace through faith. He then adds that we are “created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” In other words, a natural byproduct of the Holy Spirit’s work in us is how we share His love with others. So it’s clear that our “good works” are simply a natural overflow of faith. Because of our faith and identity in Christ, our works should be automatic and backed by joyful enthusiasm.
