Finding Peace in the Pause

Your Stillness

"But Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm." Exodus 14:13-14 NLT

This is one of my favourite scriptures because it reminds me that God will fight for you—if you let Him.

As humans, we naturally crave control. We find it hard to stand still and do nothing, especially when life feels uncertain or challenging. There's a tendency to believe that our involvement and effort is what makes the difference. We think that speaking up for ourselves or taking matters into our own hands is the surest path to success.

But here's a gentle reminder: the battle is not yours; it belongs to the Lord. God is more interested in your happiness, peace, and success than you are. Like any creator, He desires His creation to thrive. No inventor designs something to watch it fail—how much more our loving Heavenly Father?

The Bible repeatedly urges us to "give our burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of us" (Psalm 55:22, NLT). In Matthew 6:26 (NLT), Jesus reminds us of our value:

"Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you far more valuable to Him than they are?"

Verse 27 then follows with this piercing question:

"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"

The answer is simple—worry adds nothing. In fact, It often robs us of our peace, perspective, and rest.

Today's scripture from Exodus is both a command and a comfort: Don't be afraid. Stand still. Stay calm. It's one of the most repeated instructions in the Bible—do not fear—and yet, it's one of the hardest to obey. Fear can feel more natural than faith, especially when we can't see the outcome. But that's exactly when God calls us to trust Him most.

When fear begins to creep in, and your mind starts to spiral with anxious thoughts, pause and reach for scripture. Let God's word become louder than your fears. Remind yourself that it is not man but God who is fighting for you. He is the one orchestrating your journey and aligning the paths of others to fulfil His purpose in your life.

Think about it—this is the same God who created the heavens and the earth, who hung the stars in space and set the sun and moon in motion, who holds the entire universe in balance. That same powerful, precise, and loving God is fighting for you.

So, dear friend, stand still and stay calm. Yes, it's easier said than done, but here's something I've learnt: when fear gets loud, let scripture get louder. Speak God's truth over your thoughts until it drowns out the noise of fear and restores your stillness, calmness, and peace.

Action Point:

Meditate on today's scriptures. Repeat it as often as needed until your heart and mind align with its truth. Let it lead you into a place of stillness, trust, and peace.
