Not me. Him.

Way back in 1992, at the crest of my climb towards cultural and artistic sophistication, I found myself paying a second visit to the local cinema to truly and fully ingest the largely underrated 20th-century masterpiece Wayne’s World.

I love the scene where the film’s protagonist Wayne and his closest comrade Garth are invited ‘behind the curtain’, into the inner sanctum of their idol Alice Cooper. Overcome with reverence, they fall to their knees crying, ‘We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!’ It’s quite a touching moment.

Thank you, Wayne and Garth. Your unintended contribution to biblical exegesis and my own understanding of worship is on the public record. But Alice Cooper isn’t the Lord our Maker.

We bow down in worship, kneeling before our God because HE IS worthy. It’s not about us or our worthiness. That’s been taken care of. We’ve been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. We’re in His pasture, we’re His flock… there is no curtain. Would you join me as I prayerfully try not to get carried away with my bit in this life of worship? Even when – or especially when – that feeling of not being worthy sneaks in?

We worship Him because He is worthy. He is worthy. He is worthy!

Worship

“Worship is our heartbeat. It’s the life that courses through our veins, and it’s the celebration of who God is that brings about our response of submission, adoration, and exaltation.” (Made To Worship – Chris Parfoot). As you follow this 5-day plan, make sure you set aside time to worship Him for all He has done and all He is going to do!
