When Jesus Responds With Sass

Scripture: “Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come.” —John 2:4 (NIV)

The wine ran out. The guests were whispering. The vibe was slipping from joyful celebration to awkward silence. And Mary, Jesus' mom, stepped in like every good party-saving matriarch in history: “Jesus. Fix it.”

His response? Basically: “Uh… now?”

Let’s be real—Jesus’ first miracle wasn’t raising the dead or calming a storm. It was catering. At a wedding. Because apparently, even the Son of God isn't immune to mom-pressure.

But He did it, even if He first replied with a soft-amount-of-sass (John 2:4). Maybe His mom gave Him "that look“—you know the one.

He did what she wanted, after all. Quietly. Elegantly. Overflowingly. And the best wine? It came last.

Psalm 145:16 says, You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. This is the heart of God—not stingy or detached, but generous, timely, and involved in things we didn’t even think were spiritual enough to matter.

This isn’t the flannel graph Jesus who floats through life handing out halos. This is the real Jesus, who shows up in the small stuff, the awkward stuff, the moments that just need a little divine flair.

Reflection Prompt:

What feels like “not a big deal” that Jesus might want to step into? Have you invited Him?

Reflection Prayer:

When things run out, You still overflow. Thank You Jesus.
