Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read Matthew 11:28–30 again.

  • Who's speaking in this passage?
  • What does it teach us about why we can trust Jesus?
  • What about it doesn't make sense yet?

A: Application

What's something that feels like a burden right now?

How does this passage invite you to handle that thing?

Jesus didn't say trusting him always makes the heaviness go away—but he does promise to help us carry it. How could you invite Jesus to help you carry what burdens you?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer talking to God about a burden you need help carrying. Ask for help trusting Jesus to be a source of rest in the middle of heartache or pressure. Think about ways you've experienced peace or encouragement in the past, and say thank you that Jesus is with you in both good and bad times.
