Pray, Lament, Worship and Repent With Psalm 25

ڕۆژی1 لە 7

Do you have a word, verse or phrase for the year 2025?

At the end of each year, God usually places something on my heart for the following year. Sometimes, this comes from a sermon; other times, it is a specific verse or a prayer. For the year 2025, I felt drawn to Psalm 25. Over the last three months, I have been praying and meditating over this Psalm, and I’d love to share some of my thoughts with you this week.

We’ll be going through Psalm 25 verse by verse, starting today with Psalm 25:1-3

To You, Lord, I lift up my soul.
My God, in You I trust,
Do not let me be ashamed;
Do not let my enemies rejoice over me.
Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed;
Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.

“I lift up my soul.” Isn’t that the most beautiful prayer description ever? Our soul houses our doubts and fears, as well as our ability to trust and have faith.

Both can exist at the same time.

David says, “My God, in You I trust”, but also expresses his fears of being put to shame and his enemies rejoicing over him.

Trusting God does not mean that you will never experience fear, but it does mean that you can choose to lift up your soul and everything in it–the good, the bad, and the ugly–to God.

I encourage you to pray Psalm 25 over yourself and your family every day this week. What I do is add the name of our family in the final verse so it reads, “Deliver the Mendes family, O God, from all our distress!” You can do the same for yourself or your family.

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
