Spirit Led
Yesterday, we learned the importance of living Spirit First. Today, my prayer for you is the same as Paul’s for the Ephesians: that you may be “…strengthened with power in your inner being through His Spirit.” (Eph 3:16, CSB) Strengthening your spirit is not something you do alone; it happens as you allow the Holy Spirit to lead and empower you.
Let’s go back to Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus. Jesus said, “The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8). Jesus wants us to understand what it means to walk with the Holy Spirit. Like the wind, the Spirit moves according to His will, guiding us into a deeper relationship with God.
So how does the Spirit strengthen us? He leads us to the very places that nourish and transform us: reading the Bible, praying, fasting, and worshiping. These spiritual disciplines are the sails that catch the wind of the Spirit. The more we position ourselves in these places, the stronger our spirit becomes.
Just as the wind has a sound, the Holy Spirit speaks. He whispers direction, correction, and encouragement. Maybe He’s calling you to surrender something, to worship more, to forgive, or to spend more time in His Word and less on distractions. His voice is gentle, yet powerful. It’s our responsibility to listen and respond.
The best way to understand this is through the imagery of a sailor. A sailor does not control the wind but learns to adjust the sails to catch its movement. In the same way, believers must adjust their souls and minds to follow the Spirit’s leading.
Today, adjust your sail. Let the Spirit blow and guide you to where you need to focus so that your inner being may grow strong in Him.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I open my heart to You. Teach me to adjust my life so I can be fully led by You. Strengthen my inner being and help me walk in step with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
