Attribute #11 - Blessedness
Bless the Lord, O my soul! (Psalm 103:22)
God is eternally blessed. Even though men shun and suppress the truth about God, His unchanging nature remains. Paul speaks to this in Romans 1:18–25. Just as “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven” (Romans 1:18) so “the righteousness of God is revealed” through the gospel (Romans 1:17). Since mankind has rejected the just standard of God as revealed in creation (Romans 1:20) and conscience (Romans 2:15), they knowingly “suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18) “and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:25). The rejection of truth leads to God turning sinful men over to their own desires for rejecting “the Creator who is blessed forever” (Romans 1:25).
Ultimately the rejection of truth leads to divine judgment. Since the Eternal One has created all people, He has the right to judge them (Revelation 4:11). God is eternally blessed, has the authority to judge earth’s inhabitants, and should perpetually be praised.
As the Father is eternally blessed, so is Jesus. Romans 9:5 acknowledges Christ’s dual nature as both human and the “eternally blessed God.” Although the Holy Spirit’s blessedness is not explicitly stated in Scripture, His role focuses on glorifying Christ (John 15:26). Even though the Spirit is eternally blessed being a member of the Trinity, His ministry is to point people to Jesus not drawing attention to Himself! Together, the triune God reflects eternal blessedness, inviting believers to praise and worship Him perpetually (Psalm 113:1-2).
Employment Point: God is eternally blessed.
