Day 21: The Apostles – Strength to Overcome Fear
Scripture: Matthew 14:22-33
Key Verse: “Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ He said, ‘why did you doubt?’” – Matthew 14:31
They were terrified when the disciples were caught in a storm on the sea. Then they saw a figure walking toward them on the water: Jesus! But, ever the bold one, Peter asked Jesus to call him out onto the water. He stepped out in faith, walking toward Jesus. But his fear took over when he noticed the wind and waves, and he began to sink.
Jesus immediately reached out His hand and saved him. He asked, “Why did you doubt?” The lesson was clear: Fear and faith cannot coexist. When Peter focused on the storm, he lost sight of the Savior standing right before him.
Faith in Jesus doesn’t promise a storm-free life, but it does promise His presence amid the storm. When we keep our eyes on Him, He will give us the strength to overcome our fears.
Prayer Focus: Ask God to strengthen your faith, especially in the storms of life, so that you can trust Him fully, even when fear creeps in.

Jesus told us that our weariness comes from carrying a burden that is too heavy for us. Instead, we are supposed to give our problems, cares, and concerns to Him and allow Him to give us the strength to do what He asks. He will teach us to do this over the next 30 days because He is humble and gentle at heart. God's word will show us examples of people throughout scripture who put their burdens in His hands and found rest for their souls.
