Comforted by Truth

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

Isaiah 55:8

When we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death, God can seem so far away. We often wonder, Is God even real? Does He hear me? Does He see me? From our limited perspective, we are met with silence, and now we feel abandoned and angry. If God is real, how could He have let my loved one die? These feelings of anger and hurt are normal. As we walk this earth, we are limited in our seeing and understanding. We may think back to the times we prayed and begged God to change the course of the path we found ourselves on. But what happened? Nothing. Or at least that’s what our mere mortal minds tend to believe. Yet, as Christ’s followers, if we pause for just a moment, we will remember that God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. During the hard moments, we must hold fast to the truth that the things of Christ are a mystery to man. This is where we walk by faith and not by sight. Our heavenly Father loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son for us. We may not understand the whys of today, but one day it will all be made clear. Our feelings are a normal part of the grief walk, and we mustn’t berate ourselves for feeling them. God knows. It’s during these times of anger and questioning when we should lean into the One who knows all.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.”

2 Corinthians 1:3

Father, help me to hold on to You and Your truths, especially during these times when don’t understand Your plan. When I cannot see You or feel You, please remind me of Your Word and Your promises, in Jesus’ mighty name.
