Living with Purpose
The churches of Sardis and Laodicea had lost their sense of purpose. They had wealth, comfort, and influence, yet spiritually, they were lifeless. Jesus told Sardis, You have a name that you are alive, but you are dead (Revelation 3:1). To Laodicea, He said, Because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth(Revelation 3:16).
Their problem wasn’t outright rebellion—it was apathy. They had blended so much with their culture that their faith had become diluted, ineffective, and purposeless. The danger of lukewarm faith is that it deceives us into thinking we’re fine when we’re actually drifting.
Jesus’ call is clear: Be zealous and repent (Revelation 3:19). Our faith is meant to be passionate, alive, and purposeful. He calls us to wake up, strengthen what remains, and live with intention.
Reflection: Are you actively pursuing God, or have you slipped into a lukewarm faith? What steps can you take today to live with passion and purpose?
