As we read today, let’s pay attention to how Jesus has been continually telling parables set in celebratory contexts through the book of Luke. It happens three times in this chapter alone! God’s joy welcomes everyone in his family. N.T. Wright says, “All of heaven is having a party […] and if we don’t have one as well we’ll be out of tune with God’s reality.” (Luke For Everyone, p184.)
