DAY 10

In Matthew 28, Jesus gave final instructions to His disciples before ascending into heaven. You may know these instructions as the Great Commission and may even be able to quote at least the beginning, “Go and make disciples.”

What is often overlooked in these final few verses of Matthew’s gospel are the two statements of truth Jesus makes before and after the command to “go.” The first is “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” As stated in Jeremiah 23, Jesus is the long-awaited King from David’s bloodline. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. All authority has been given to Him, and unlike any other king, at the center of Jesus’ rule and reign is wisdom, justice, and righteousness.

The second truth statement is this: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus’ reign is not impersonal or distant. He is our present savior and king. Meaning Jehovah-Tsidkenu, “The Lord Our Righteous Savior,” has real, tangible solutions for our problems – wisdom in place of foolishness, justice in place of injustice, and righteousness in place of sin.

REFLECTION

James 1:5 instructs us to ask God for wisdom and that He will give it generously. For what situation or relationship in your life can you ask Him for wisdom?
