The Shepherds’ Confer
'When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”'
Following the angelic announcement, the shepherds gathered to confer with one another. We get the salient point of their conversation - '“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”' One cannot help but believe there was more to the conversation following the angels’ visit. There must have been a sense of security that this band of shepherds had experienced the same occurrence that allowed them to feel that it wasn’t a figment of their imagination. Being able to unpack an experience with another person can be hugely helpful.
God has created us for community - whether you are an introvert or extrovert, there is a time when we need others. Just being heard is of great value.
Viewpoint Reflection
Imagine you were one of the shepherds that experienced the angelic appearance and announcement. What else would you have said to the other shepherds besides “Let’s go to Bethlehem…”. Would your words be more for confirmation or clarification?
