Peace - The Calling to Witness
In the New Living Translation, Colossians chapter 3:1-17 is titled ‘Living the New Life’. One of the characteristics of our new life in Christ is peace. We are to let the peace of God rule our hearts. Peace is supposed to guide us as we live this new life. Whenever we need to make an important decision, many of us look to where we find peace. Peace governs and guides our decisions.
But according to this verse, peace isn’t just an internal disposition, we are supposed to live in peace with one another. We are called to live in peace. In the same way that my hands and feet are at peace with one another as part of my body, we, too, as the body of Christ are supposed to be at peace with one another irrespective of our backgrounds and denominations.
Our Saviour put it this way…
John 13:35 - By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another. (NASB)
Questions for reflection: Do I allow the peace of God to govern my decisions? Do I live in peace with other Christians? Is there anything I can do to foster peace in the body of Christ? Does the way I relate with fellow Christians reflect the love and peace of God?
