Romans 4
READ ROMANS 4
There are many, many things about Abraham’s life and relationship with God that I think are extraordinary, but the testimony we read in Romans 4 sums up the greatest reason he remains an example to us all.
Abraham didn’t waver in his belief in God – because he was fully convinced that what God had promised him, He was able to do.
This is where we suddenly realise that yes, Abraham believed and had great faith – but actually the pivotal thing was the object of his belief. The defining factor of Abraham’s faith wasn’t anything to do with him – but everything to do with God.
Sometimes it’s easy to slip into thinking that your life is defined by the job you have, the family you have, the house or land you have – (notice, these are all things Abraham had too) but where Abraham’s faith is an incredible example to us is that he shows us a life lived with his eyes fixed firmly on God. His faith didn’t waver – because the God he trusted was and remains worthy. So he continued doing what he needed to do, weathering the change and the storms of his lifetime, but always knowing without any uncertainty that God was able to fulfil His promises to him.
God is merciful and mighty. He’s worthy of unwavering faith.
