Finding our way in life can be tricky, can’t it? We may think we’re on the best possible path for our lives. We may even actually be on the best possible path, at least for a time. But then, something changes. Just like that, the path we’re walking and the things we’re pursuing just don’t fill us with the joy we thought they would. Then, we’re left feeling a little aimless. If the things we’ve worked so hard for aren’t the things that will make us happy, what will? Where can we find the joy we’re looking for in this life?
As the psalmist wrote here, the answer is in God. It’s only in walking His path that we find real, meaningful life in this world. It’s only in His presence that we experience deep, lasting joy. It’s only by His hand that we find pleasure in this life and beyond. Work on memorizing this verse this week. That way, the next time you find yourself looking for fulfillment in anything other than God, you have this truth planted in your heart to guide you back to the path of true life. Let it be the voice you follow toward true joy.

Jesus had a way of taking ideas that everyone understood and flipping them upside down to show His followers something new. We’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most countercultural ideas and dive into the way they turned preconceived notions and expectations on their heads, ultimately teaching us what it looks like to take Jesus’ lead and follow His countercultural example in our own lives today.
