Counterculturalنموونە

Jesus’ words here are incredibly countercultural. In our world, “the greatest among you” is defined with a different standard. It’s the one with the best position, the most fame, the biggest bank account, the highest achievements—the list could go on and on! In our culture, it’s about what we do, not who we are. That’s what makes Jesus’ approach to greatness so countercultural! He flipped the notion on its head with His simple statement here. In Kingdom culture, greatness comes through humility. The one who serves, the one who sees those in need, the one who doesn’t boast in themselves, the one who follows the way of God—that’s who is the greatest. And while on Earth we may never see the tangible reward for choosing a humble approach to life, in the Kingdom of Heaven, we’ll be exalted for the way we humbled ourselves in this life.
Honestly consider what stands in the way of you choosing humility. What’s holding you back? Ask God to give you the strength to push past the humility blockers in your life and embrace His countercultural approach. Ask Him to help you see what He sees—that your greatness lies in your humility!
