Today’s Prayer of Illumination: Before we get into today’s reading, take a few moments to quiet your heart and listen to the Lord in silence (set a timer for 1-5 minutes and be still), pray this prayer of illumination at the end of silence before you start reading today’s Word:

Holy God, Word made flesh, let me come to this word open to being surprised. Silence my agendas; banish my assumptions; cast out my casual detachment. Confound my expectations; clear the cobwebs from my ears; penetrate the corners of my heart with this word. I know that you can, I pray that you will, and I wait with great anticipation.

Lord Jesus, as I follow you today, help me practice compassion, break my heart for what breaks yours, Amen.
