The Promise of Christmasنموونە

This verse from the gospel of Luke is familiar during the holiday season. You may have heard it at church, on a Christmas card, or in a song. Because it’s so familiar, it’s easy to skip over the words' meaning. This isn’t just a sweet holiday sentiment or statement to acknowledge at Christmas. It’s an announcement of the good news of great joy that is Christmas—the birth of Jesus. It’s a celebration of the God who sent His Son to save us and the peace that Jesus brought with Him when He came.
This holiday season, challenge yourself to memorize this verse. Having Scripture like it in your mind during this Christmas season is a great way to remember what you’re celebrating—the birth of Jesus into the world! To work on memorizing this verse this week, get creative! Draw a picture that illustrates what the verse is saying to you. Then, write the Scripture below your picture, working to do as much of it as you can by memory. Post your completed work somewhere in your home or office to not only help you remember the verse but also remind you of the Christmas story you’re celebrating this season.

The birth of Jesus isn’t just a great story; it’s a real event that shows us not just how God loves us but how God’s people (just like us) had to learn to trust in the face of incredibly difficult and, at times, unbelievable circumstances. We’ll be reminded of the humanity in the story and the faith it takes to believe in the promise of Christmas!
