Titus, Part Oneنموونە

The importance of holding to the truth
“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” (Titus 1:9)
One important task of elders is to build up their church members in the truth about God. It is crucial for every believer to know the truth and stay away from false teachings. Immature Christians are “tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes” (Ephesians 4:14). It is the responsibility of church elders to help them grow in knowledge and faith, so they won’t be deceived easily anymore. For that aim, it may be necessary to sharply rebuke people who spread false teachings.
Nowadays, many people are not too concerned about truth. They hold the opinion that anyone can have ‘their own truth’ as long as they don’t harm others. But God does not agree. It is of crucial importance to have the right perspective on the Lord God and on yourself to know how you can get right with Him and live in harmony with Him. For if you trust in your own good works or in any other means instead of Jesus Christ, you will not be saved! That’s why Paul is so intolerant towards false doctrine. He does not want anyone to get lost.
Is “sound doctrine” an important criterion for you when you are searching for a church to visit or to join?
