The Advent of Jesusنموونە

Today we start our second week of our Advent plan. The word advent means ‘the arrival of a notable person or thing.’ In this period, we remember the arrival of the most notable person in history, Jesus!
We will continue looking at the prophetic writings, which look forward to the messianic figure who would come to save Israel and, ultimately, the world. The readings from the last couple of days predict that this Ruler and Savior will need to suffer to make things right. Through this suffering, though, the Messiah will be raised to new life (Psalm 16:20) and given ‘dominion, and glory and a kingdom’ (Daniel 7:14). Like the prophet Jonah was released from the depths of death after three days, so will the ‘Son of Man’ be raised, victorious over death.
This week let’s ask ourselves:
- If I had received these prophecies, what kind of Messiah might I have expected?
- How can I ensure that my image of who Jesus is corresponds with who He really is?

This plan follows the prophecies about the Messiah and then the life of Jesus. During this advent season as MyLocal church, we want to look at the life of Jesus and his incredible message to humanity. We believe Jesus is the Messiah prophesied about in the Hebrew Bible: Emmanuel, 'God with us'. In this winter season we remember hope despite the circumstances.
