Daily Bible Reading, July 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Faithنموونە

July 30
Introduction
Throughout Samson’s story, there are references to the LORD’s power making him strong (13:25; 14:6, 19; 15:14). While he was strong physically, he seemed to be weak in other ways. His encounter with Delilah surfaces his weakness and leads to his betrayal in that Delilah is able to trick Samson into revealing the source of his strength.
Scripture Reading
Judges 16:4-22
Today’s Key Verse: Judges 16:17a
“. . . My hair has never been cut,” [Samson] said. “I have been dedicated to God as a nazirite from the time I was born.”
Reflect
What role did Delilah play in the Philistines’ capture of Samson? What prompted Samson to reveal to her the source of his strength? What happened to him when he was captured? Based on her actions, how would you characterize Delilah?
Pray
Lord God, surround me this day with your love and care and help me to avoid deception so that I am not tempted to stray from what is pleasing to you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 16:23-31: Samson’s final act against the Philistines results in his own death.
