The War on Wisdom

DAY 1 OF 35

Who doesn’t enjoy watching the Olympics? It is one of the greatest sporting events of the globe, with the best of the best from all over the world fighting for gold. It’s a good thing it only happens every four years, because one can get lost watching it. One of the highlights of every Olympic Games is the 100m final for men and women. Just as important as who crosses the finish line, is how competing athletes kick off their race at the starting blocks. Scientists and coaches have for decades studied the ‘perfect start’ for the athlete's height, feet, style and strength. The right start makes all the difference in how the race is run. The Bible invites us to live according to God’s Wisdom. Within the counsel of His ways and paths are locked up all the details of how we need to run our race in life so we can cross the finish line with victory. The book of Proverbs opens with, and continually reminds us of, the best start for our race - the Fear of the Lord. The Fear of the Lord can feel like an abstract concept, but it simply means to live so in awe of God that you align your life correctly. When one is struck by His holiness, His glory, and His wisdom, that person would do everything possible to live worthy of Him. The Fear of the Lord means to understand His ways, and worshipfully live in them. And for those who do live in them, it becomes a "fountain of life". God is our Creator, and He knows exactly what we need to give us the right start as athletes in this race. And He is the ultimate Coach, teaching us in His word how to complete our race. Are you ready to start your journey through Proverbs the right way?
