Opposing Satan evokes his anger

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Why do Christians meet so much opposition and hostility when they don’t hurt anyone? Why can’t other religions just tolerate Christianity? The biggest reason is behind the scenes, not visible to the natural eye. The Bible explains it to us.

The first chapter of the Bible introduces God’s enemy, Satan. He lures Adam and Eve into sin and thereby gains influence over them and all their descendants. Satan is even called “the god of this world."

But when someone comes to faith in Jesus Christ, Satan’s power over this person is broken. He or she is delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of Jesus (Colossians 1:13). Of course, Satan does not like that at all! He tries whatever he can to keep people from seeing the truth and coming to faith. Sometimes he does so disguised as an angel of light, but at other moments he “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Especially when we are sharing the Gospel and guiding other people to Jesus, Satan will oppose us. However, his power is limited. He can’t snatch us out of God’s hand!
