The Light Shines in the Darknessنموونە

Humans are blinded to the truth
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.” (John 1:9-10)
The Logos made the world and everything in it. And yet, when He came into the world, the people He had created did not recognize him! They thought He was an ordinary human, maybe a prophet. But not the eternal Logos. Not the Son of God.
Of course, it was hard to grasp how the eternal and omnipresent God could take on the form of a human baby and walk around as a normal adult. It’s totally understandable that people did not expect this to happen among them. But there is more to it. People did not recognize the Logos because they were blinded to the truth.
The wind and the waves knew who He was, and they obeyed his voice (Mark 4:39). Evil spirits and demons knew who He was, and they obeyed his voice (Mark 1:23-26). But humans did not know who He was. They wondered whether He was a prophet, or maybe the promised Messiah, or simply a deceiver.
The apostle Paul diagnoses people’s situation as follows: “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

The apostle John wrote a book about Jesus, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). This reading plan goes through many Scripture verses, and the first chapters of John’s gospel, to discover who Jesus is.
