Nehemiah heard the cry of his people. He realized he would need to pivot, and tweak some of his strategies. The first plan isn’t always the best plan. He told everyone to grab their swords, spears, and bows. From that day forward, half the people would work, while half of the people would protect the city. Do you have anybody on your team that is protecting you? Do you have a battle buddy? Someone who will watch your back, look out for you, and fight alongside you? Nehemiah knew the “buddy system” he created would form strong and consistent relationships, and their confidence and morale about the work at hand would increase.
We can resolve and prevent discouragement from overtaking us and the people around us. Unify people around the same goal. Point people back to Jesus. Encourage. Set up a rallying point. Create a “buddy system.” And then continue to build and watch Jesus accomplish much through you.
