INTRODUCTION TO THE LEADER'S JOURNEY Day ONE: The Gift of Leadership Devotion Imagine Abraham (Abram at the time) waking up on the morning he left Haran, full of faith, ready for the journey ahead. Hebrews 11:8 says, “ It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. “ Have you ever started out on a journey not knowing where you were going? As leaders, it is easy to want all the answers before we begin. If you have led for long you know certainty is elusive. Clarity and calling are what takes a leader from here to there. Welcome to The Leader’s Journey. Over the next few days you will be introduced to four domains of leadership every leader must grow in if they hope to become mature leaders. The areas are: Lead SELF - Lead OTHERS - Lead TEAMS - Lead ORGANIZATIONS. Truthfully, as a leader you will never master these areas. However, you can make continual progress. The journey begins by accepting the fact you have been given the gift of leadership. Once you embrace that reality you are positioned to develop your gift and use it to bring God glory by leading well. Romans 12:8 says if you have been given the gift of leadership …“lead diligently.” As you continue The Leader’s Journey ask yourself the following questions and work diligently to grow in each area: * How could I free up more time to order my heart and work on my leadership character? * What needs to change for me to more diligently lead with love and add greater value to those I lead? * What do I need to do to build a team that can accomplish the vision God has given me? * How could I create better alignment and engagement among the people in our organization? No organization, team, church, or family drifts to greatness. No, God always uses a leader — one who accepts the calling and wears the mantle for the good of the group. Like Abraham, you may not know where the road will take you, but rest assured...God does. If you will work hard to do your part, HE can do more in and through you than you could ever dream. Are you ready to take The Leader’s Journey? Prayer — God, thank you for the gift of leadership and for the opportunity to journey with You through life. Keep me faithful and diligent as I seek to grow my leadership character and skills over the coming days. Please cover me with Your favor, and help me to honor you in all I do.
