The beautiful exchange

This morning on my walk, I slowed down more than usual. Took time to breathe in the beauty of creation and let my heart speak honestly with the Lord. As I poured out my anxieties, my fears, and all the things I’ve been trying to carry, the beautiful exchange happened again. The weight lifted. And in its place, peace, hope and joy returned. Not temporary relief like you get from a nap or a hot-stone massage, but deep, soul-level refreshing rest. In a moment, my heart turned from heavy to wanting to dance. I lifted my face to the sun as I hid my tears of gratefulness from the other hustling morning walkers. That’s freedom. That’s Jesus.

I often forget this exchange is always available though, and I’m guessing I’m not alone. Why do we wake up each morning thinking of all that concerns us when freedom has already been bought for both you and me. I was never made to carry the weight of life, and you weren’t either.

We live in a world that demands more than our souls can bear. No wonder our hearts are weary and anxious. Jesus invites us to daily lay it all down – our stress, our striving, our pain. In return, He offers freedom: to live in peace and joy that defy our circumstances. What a beautiful exchange.

I want to encourage you today that freedom isn’t the absence of problems. It’s the presence of Christ in the middle of them. Take a moment right now and make the trade. Let Jesus turn your mourning into dancing.
