God, Turn My Worry to Worship

DAY 2 OF 5

When You Face Giants in Your Life

“Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” (1 Samuel 17:32 NLT)

Notice how David brings a secret weapon with him that no one else has—a different perspective. Saul, the Israelites, and even Goliath see this as a human battle. But David views it as a spiritual one.

When Saul tells David he can’t possibly win because he’s only a boy, David replies, “The Lord . . . will rescue me” (1 Sam. 17:37 NLT).

When Goliath warns David that he’s going to be defeated, David responds, “The Lord will conquer you” (v. 46 NLT).

After forty days of the Israelites believing the outcome is up to them, David declares, “This is the Lord’s battle” (v. 47 NLT).

We can use the same phrases that David did.

When worry tells us “You can’t handle this,” we can reply, “The Lord will rescue me.”

When worry warns we’re going to be defeated, we can respond, “The Lord will conquer the giants in my life.”

When worry tempts us to believe it’s all up to us, we can declare, “This is the Lord’s battle.”

With only a sling and small stones, David took down a giant. What seemed impossible from an earthly viewpoint became reality when approached with an eternal perspective. Like David, we can look beyond our human limitations to what only God can do.

We, like the people of Israel, can be at risk of serving the giants in our lives. But it doesn’t have to be that way. When David courageously chose to fight Goliath, he not only spoke truth, he used three strategies that we can use to protect our hearts too.

First, don’t listen to the voices telling you it’s impossible. When David shows up, no one believes this battle can be won. But like David, we only need to listen to one voice—God’s.

Next, go to battle in the way that fits you best. Saul offered David his armor. After trying it on, David quickly finds it isn’t the right fit for him. Do what works for you. God has equipped you with what you need, even if it’s different from how others have done it.

Finally, don’t go in your own strength. “David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel’” (v. 45 CSB). It wasn’t simply the stone from David’s sling that defeated Goliath; it was the power of God working in the situation.

Facing the giants in our lives with faith and courage is a powerful act of worship.

As long as you’re still fighting, you’re winning—and God will make sure you have victory in the end.

God, give me the victory I need today. You will conquer the giants in my life. I worship you in faith and with courage. Amen.

What giant do you need God to help you defeat in your life?

About this Plan

God, Turn My Worry to Worship

We all know what it’s like to carry the weight of worry. It sneaks into our minds, steals our sleep, and leaves us weary. But God offers us something better: worship that lifts our eyes off what overwhelms us and back onto Him. This 5-day devotional will help you take anxious thoughts and trade them for truth, shift from fear to faith, and discover how to rest in God’s presence. Each day offers Scripture, encouragement, and a short prayer you can say to move from worry to worship.
