Day 16: No More Tears

Reflection:

The end of the story is not destruction, but new creation. Advent isn’t a gnostic tale that wants to sweep us away into a spiritual afterglow, leaving behind the rubble of creation. It is the renewal of all things created by God and called good. Advent is not escapism, but the promise of God's full redemption. When John writes in Revelation that the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, he is not referring to an annihilation of creation, but a full restoration. What’s missing? Death, sorrow, crying, and pain. All of these are undone, because God will be with us, pouring out the fountain of life from which His faithful will freely drink. That is the hope of Advent and nothing less than this is promised with the coming of Christ.
