7 Keys for Spiritual Warfare

DAY 2 OF 8

2. SPIRITUAL WARRIORS HAVE LEARNT THE POSTURE OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE

In the story of David and Goliath, there was a standoff between the Israelites and the Philistines. The Israelites took up battle positions each day, but no one had the heart posture to take on the enemy. The soldiers physically went to the front line, but they never stepped into the fight. Every time Goliath would shout in defiance, the Israelites cowered in fear.

There is a big difference between your relative position in the natural, and your heart posture in the spiritual. God had to bring along David, a man after His own heart, who knew the posture of warfare and who would stand against Goliath.

We see in scripture that the location of the battle was close to home for David – he left home early in the morning and arrived just as the army was lining up for battle. How often is there a spiritual battle which is close to home for us, and we treat it as if it is someone else’s responsibility? When the church is under siege, do we say, “Not my problem!” When those close to us are being attacked by the enemy, do we sit back and ask those who are gifted in intercession to pray on our behalf?

The apostle Paul describes our faith journey not only as a race to finish, but as a battle to fight. Jesus rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and our posture of prayer should be standing in the gap for others so that they would also be rescued.

Our relative position in the natural should never stop us from pressing into the things of the Spirit. John the Baptist had a great understanding of the difference between relative position and a heart posture focused on God’s kingdom. In the natural, John was the son of a priest and Jesus’ older second cousin, but John knew that his relative position was not important. John had a revelation that “He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me” (John 1:15).

Our heart posture towards spiritual warfare changes everything. Our mindset should be that we are called to serve in the army of God, not just be a part of the family of God. God wants us to be strong in His mighty power so that we can take a stand against the forces of darkness. Start today by asking God for the right heart posture to be a kingdom warrior. Ask the Lord to teach you to pray, and know that the Lord hears our prayers of faith.
