God's Blueprint for Excellenceনমুনা

Day 6
Honor Authority
Ancient law 5 – “Honor your father and your mother.”
I’d like to tell you about my dad, a man who plowed cotton at eight years old after losing his mom, then answered God’s call to preach the Gospel despite having only a fourth-grade education. When he sat across from a college president who told him to go back to the plow, he persisted, saying, “I’m going to preach whether I have an education or not.” That’s honor—respecting the call and the authorities in his life, even when it was tough. I’ve seen firsthand how honoring authority, like Romans 13:7 opens doors to favor and fuels a life of excellence.
You don’t have to agree with every leader or love their personality, but honoring their position with respect, obedience, and striving for excellence sets you apart. It’s about doing the right thing, every time, whether it’s paying what you owe, listening to a wise senior, or speaking life to a kid in your circle. I’ve learned that persistence pays, and honoring authority, from parents to police to spiritual leaders, builds a legacy that lasts. So, who can you honor today? Maybe it’s a mentor, a child, or even a tough boss. Show them respect, and watch how God uses it to move you toward significance.
Action Step
Choose one person in your life—maybe a parent, leader, or young person—and do one intentional act to honor them today, like listening fully, offering a kind word, or asking for their wisdom. Write down how it felt to bestow honor.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for placing authorities in my life to guide me. Help me honor them with respect and persistence, even when it’s hard. Show me how to lift up the next generation and value the wisdom of those before me. Let my actions reflect Your love and lead me to a life of excellence. Amen.
