You are at WAR

Back in 1943, Operation Chastise, otherwise known as The Dambuster Raids, was an RAF (Royal Air Force) mission to use bouncing bombs to blow up German dams in the Ruhr Valley. Blowing up the dams was the target, but the bigger picture goal was for water to flood factories, cut off power, and cripple the production of steel, which was a vital resource for the German war effort across Europe.

The target was the dam, but the purpose, goal and overall hope for the mission was something else, further inland. To step on the supply line, the IV drip or umbilical cord, to starve the frontline.

The bible verse we are using for this study (1 Peter 5:8), brings forward a few key things to process and think on.

• You are at WAR and you have an ENEMY

Even if you don’t feel it and you’re sitting there in the warm, feet up, comfy joggers on with a full stomach and a cold drink. Your landscape may not look like a war-torn frontier where the very soul of humanity is being fought over, but that’s absolutely where you sit.

The bouncing bombs that are the enemy of your soul have many names written on them:

• sabotage, fear, frustration, disappointment, dismay, shame, guilt and disqualification.

The planes that rumble into the air carrying these bombs and many others bear the insignia "To Steal. To kill and to destroy!" painted underneath their wings.

So, what’s the real target? Further inland from where the bombs land, what is the goal?

• It’s your HEART.

If you take damage from the enemy’s bombs, they are designed to shift your eyes, your devotion and your heart to anything and everything that isn’t God. To push you from speaking with and listening to the Holy Spirit, towards fixing things your own way, to aligning your life with the sugar-coated emptiness the world offers to heal a hurting heart. To sever your union, your intimacy with the God who created you, who wants to walk with you and lead you. That’s the enemy’s focus, his long game, where the flood waters of calamity his bombs caused want to overwhelm you.

• So, be sober-minded; be watchful!

Your potential to be a blessing to your generation is incredible. A heart yielded to God is something that alters the very foundations of culture and shatters even the hardest of hearts to be won for Jesus and his kingdom. The enemy will target these men, but do not be afraid.
